Frequently Asked Questions
........

Should we enroll in the regional level, the national level, or both?

Most schools taking the Mandelbrot Competition should choose the regional level, and schools registering for the first time are required to participate at this level. The regional tests are designed to be interesting and accessible to any high school student with a solid background in algebra and geometry. Of course, we include a few difficult problems to occupy more experienced students. The national level tests are intended to challenge even advanced students, those who expect to score high on the AMC-10 or AMC-12 and make significant progress on the AIME. We recommend the national level tests for schools with at least two or three such students. Perhaps the best option for these schools, however, is to register for both levels, which gives coordinators the ability to have all students compete at a level suitable to their background.
